There are four numbers in a data set. They are 4, 4, 8, and 14.

a) What is the ∑\displaystyle \sum x2\displaystyle {x}^{{2}}   

b) What is the (∑x)2\displaystyle {\left(\sum{x}\right)}^{{2}}    

c) The formula for the sample variance, S2\displaystyle {S}^{{2}}  is  \displaystyle  ∑x2−(∑x)2nn−1\displaystyle \frac{{\sum{x}^{{2}}-\frac{{{\left(\sum{x}\right)}^{{2}}}}{{n}}}}{{{n}-{1}}}  Use parts a and b to help calculate the variance.   

d. Now take the square root of the previous answer to get the sample standard deviation.
